  • I been waiting for this Add-on to Firefox for a while, Scrapbook. The name doesn’t do it justice, if you ever wanted to save and organize web pages for later viewing offline then this tool is for you.

  • Macs have Expose and Spaces and now Windows has Virtual Desktop Manager. Its pretty slick, perfect for separating work and great for when you are running a virtual machine on another desktop. It works on both Vista and XP.

  • Now go out and be productive!

Firefox 2 has been a good browser, the only complaints are the memory management issues. Firefox 3 fixes those issues and adds some new features. Tagging is now available for bookmarks, though I haven’t found a use for it yet. There are the additional security feature updates and there are claims that the new toolbar is awesome, but I haven’t seen it yet. I don’t think its any smarter than the old one. Overall, there isn’t any significant impact to my web surfing. Firefox 3 has more features to better organize and search data. However, I still can’t live without my Tab Mix, Download Statusbar, Colorful Tabs, NoScript, ScribeFire, and Speed Dial extensions.

Hurrah!, I actually found something in Vista that was not previous present in Windows XP and that is actually useful. Vista Ultimate includes Windows Calendar, a stand-alone calendar that supports To-do items, appointments, and reminders. Best of all, it supports the standard calendar format (.ics) that way you can import, download, and share calendars online. Previously I blogged here about how Mozilla had a stand-alone calendar application that was worthy of consideration, but was still in beta. I have to admit I switched to the Windows Calendar, its just faster and more stable than than Mozilla Sunbird. Windows Calendar also links to your Windows Contacts, it can be improved by making more options configurable such as the layout, its very simplistic. However, I find the calendar serves its purpose well. If you don’t like Microsoft or don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket you may stay away, but when it comes with the OS your doing yourself a disservice if you don’t at least try it.
